Whether in the office or online, most of our lives are spent interacting with others.
It’s almost second nature to profile and get a read on somebody we interact with constantly. However, it is less common for us to take a step back and notice/understand the person we interact with the most… ourselves.
When we work with others it is wise to understand what we bring to the table. We should evaluate and reflect on our own values, morals, and opinions. We should keep a watchful eye out for how we affect others with our natural design as well.
The Golden Rule, “treat others as you would like to be treated”, is widely used in team building exercises and is a strong moral goal for life. However, not all people are designed the same. Not everyone is extraverted or process driven. Not everyone likes to work alone.
The problem with the Golden Rule is it doesn’t always work. We recommend you try the Platinum Rule: “treat others the way they want to be treated!” When we speak each other’s language; we build rapport, work well together, and achieve optimal results. We win as individuals, teams, and companies.
